Please tell me my baby will be ok. The dealership told me not to go above 5,500 rpms for the first 500 miles. I just read it should be 600 miles. It will be ok won't it? Also, the cut in the carpet, are they supposed to do something about that?

cuts in the carpet, its fine. all of em are like that.
the 600 miles under 5500rpms - well, some blew it, some kept to it. its in the manual to keep it under 5500rpms, but shouldn't be too much to worry about.
that's my take on the subject, but I stuck to the rule until 525 miles.

Cuts are normal and appear in most cars. The 600 mile is a generic statement/recommendation. The engine is properly broken in as evidenced by oil consupmtion dropping. I hear about 3-5,000 miles for full seating of the oil skirt rings. The key is to CHECK YOUR OIL regularly....like every fill-up until it stops consuming it.

No, your engine is going to blow up... It is imperative that you don't go over.
Okay... now that you're scared... Don't worry about it.
It's actually not a bad thing to take it up a few times... doesn't & won't hurt a thing. Simple things to watch out for, don't rev up too much too often... don't hold it at a constant RPM for any amount of time. Such as don't cruise control it, and let it hold at that one RPM... could set the rings bad.
No worries, we couldn't keep my step-mom from revving her CL Type-S when she got it...

s2klady, if it makes you feel any better, my dealer told me there's no break-in period. So, I reved it to 8000rpm when I had 15 miles on it. That was only time I reved it before 600 miles. Now my s2k has 7000 miles and it still runs great.
Don't worry. It has very strong engine. Just don't do it too much during break-in period.
cheers,
