You only need enough height to place the drainpan in position. If you have the Fumoto drain plug, everything is very easy. The Fumoto can be operated from under the hood. I haven't tried this yet, but you may be able to place a couple of shortened 2x4's in front of all wheels and drive up on these. As stated, you only need enough clearance for the drain pan. If this idea wont work for you, you will have to use a jack. Best to keep the car as level as possible during the change.

Jack up 1 side, remove drain bolt, lower car and let it drain completely, raise car back up, finish oil change.

Do I need a filter wrench to tighten the oil filter or can I do it by hand?

You are only suppost to hand tighten oil filters.

The OEM Honda filters have directions including a torque specification and a procedure for how far to turn the filter after its first contact with the mating surface in the case a torque wrench cannot be used (7/8 turn for the S2000 IIRC).

Properly installing the oil filter is essential on the S2000. Several have had their's loosen and leak from the engine vibration and not being tightened enough. Still others have had theirs leak from being overly tightened, damaging the seal or warping the filter in the process. In both cases, a leak can cause a fire.

I understand that. I always just tighten them the best I can by hand, and I have never had a problem with leaks or anything withing the 25,000 miles i've put on my s2k. I also use an OEM filter every time I change the oil. I'm just saying you dont need a filter wrench to tighten them. It would be best to torque it to spec, but hand tightening the best I can has worked for me for years with my s2000, so thats how I do it.

i use a sharpie marker to mark the place where it was tightened to. that way if it loosens as has been reported by previous S2000 owners, I look for the black mark...
