Default 'old' vs 'new' s2000?

I am thinking about purchasing a used S2000. It wil be a MY 2000 or MY 2001. I have heard that the suspension has been changed for the 'new' 2.2 version of the S2000, and I am worried about safety of an older model because of the instaility that I have heard of... is this something I should consider when buying used?

The 04+ do have a tweaked suspension making it less twitchy, but no less better in handling, if not better.

Though with the 04+ models you also get the 2.2L engine which doesn not have the same 9k rev point that has put many smiles on so many!

The latter models are not exactly dangerous as long as you respect it and dont cross your abilities or the cars.

Either way, you will have a fantastic car

The 04+ is less twitchy at the limit. If you are not autocrossing or tracking the car regularly, it won't be a problem. In either case, there are remedies for the happy rear in pre-03 models...and the 9k rev is nice too.

The extra torque in the 04/05 is nice but sometimes I wonder if I wouldn't have been happier with the sharper stearing and higher redline of the pre '04.
Having driven both though I can tell you this: neither will outperform the other, they come up equal both in speed and hanlding. The newer ones are a bit more friendly in daily driving but are also maybe a touch less exilarating when driving at the limit. Oh and the 04+ has better looking lights and bodywork IMO. Either way you'll be happy.

I had an 01 and now have an 04 S2000.

Given the chance to buy either one brand new again, I would definitely choose the 04 every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

The best that I can concisely describe it, the 04/05 is more *mature*.

Both are great cars, though.
