I've decided that my amateur electronics work on my s2000 is creating a mild disturbance in The Force, and needs to be redone properly. So...
I installed some hella horns, but just slapped them onto the existing stock wiring (yeah, yeah, I know). I bumped the fuse up, but now I think I ought to put a relay on those suckers, just to be safe. I've lost the relay that come with the hella's, so can anyone tell me where to get a comparable (or better) relay, and how to wire it?

See what amperage you need to pull, and pick an appropriate relay. I'll TRY and make a reasonable schematic in ASCII...

OK, the '$' is the relay coil with two wires coming off of it, these wires attach to 'A', your horn switch/button.
The two little circles are the normally open (NO) on the left and normally closed (NC) on the right, with the angle piece being the leaf switch. The horn, 'B', connects between ground and the NO post.
You push 'A', which energizes the coil (I didn't show the coil to power connection), pulls the leaf switch to the left and connects the top of the horn to +12V.
Viola! Instant blasting power!

Totally ticked me off...I had a reasonable facsimile all done with ASCII and the proportional fonts killed it. The 'GND' should be under the far right (for instance), instead it shows up at the far left...the board deleted all leading spaces. Oh well, as long as he got the idea...
We need a PSF option, kinda like the 'quote' or 'bold' option for just such instances.

In a nutshell, a relay is nothing more than a coil and a metal contact on a spring. By energizing the coil (i.e., apply power to it), it becomes an electromagnet and pulls the metal contact towards it. The metal contact allows a connection between one side of the contact and one of the posts (the little 'o' in the diagram). By connecting your horn to the NO post, you push the 'A' button thereby energizing the coil, thereby pulling the metal contact towards, thereby connecting power to the NO post (which your horn is connected to).
...and, ahem, viola! You scare the living bejesus out of an SUV!
