Default Which oil to use on USED car

i just bought a 2001 S2K with 50k miles on it. The oil change history is unknown. Which oil would you recommend to use. Thank you in advance.

j/k-- I've been very happy with Chevron 10W-30, cheap by the box at Costco. I've had the oil analyzed and got excellent results.

I interpret the original question as whether to use mineral oil or synthetic oil. If the previous owner switched to synthetic oil, would it do any harm to change back to mineral oil. Please correct me if I interpreted it wrong. But welcome to the board and the S2000.

no you can change from synthetic back to mineral no problem.

if the car has over 50k, use valvoline max-life. one of the best synthetic high mileage oils you can get.

read the oil journals in the tech forum here on s2ki.com

if you're curious as to what kind of oil is in there, just lick the dipstick. synthetic definitely has a distinctly "synthesized" taste.

Congratulations! I hope you enjoy trouble free miles. I think the important thing is to change oil regularly at every 3,000-4,000 mile interval.
