I always check the oil ,on every car I own, on every fill-up. The same for tires, brake fluid, coolant, windscreen fluid. I drive a lot (110000 km or 66000 M annualy) and at least once a year this habbit saves me from unpleasant surprises. Few months ago, I realised just before I go on a long trip, that my Sidecick was low on coolant. I took the trip with another car and good thing I did because I had a cracked head. Even if your car is done consuming oil (mine never consumed any ) check at least every 5 days. Personaly, I saved a lot of money and trouble just by spending 5 min on every fill up.

CDELENA: How many miles until you switched to 5W/30? Just curious as I agree with your posts.
As for mixing break-in with new...no problem. It will only dilute the additives but the majority of break in is accomplished by 600 miles as Honda allows VTEC then.
Also agree to vary your RPM's during break in. Worse thing to do (other then VTEC early) is drive many of the break-in miles at at a constant RPM.

My engine consumed and later leaked (due to a failed VTEC solenoid seal) plenty of oil until around 7000 miles. No further consumption through the next two changes.
My first oil change was with Mobil 5W-30. I opted to do my own oil and my dealer provided me with three changes worth of oil, filters and drain plug washers. 5W-30 is the only oil besides Mobil 1 that my Honda dealer uses in the S2000.
The car seems to have increased power since around 8000 miles. Currently at 12,400. I'm debating whether or not I'll go synthetic. The first oil change looked awful. The second was a little murky after a trip to Florida and back. The oil from the third change looked unused. I'll run another 3000 miles on the mineral stuff before deciding on synthetic.
