Default Oil Top up

Hey.

If my car is registering at the low level of the dipstick, How much oil would you add to bring it up to the normal mark.

This is the first time I have had to do this and would rather get some opinions so I don't have to do the trial and error thing.

Thanks in advance!

i think there are 5 X's on the dipstick? which equates to 1 qt of oil. so if you are one X below full you add in 1/5 qt oil etc etc..

You don't need it to be at the top - just above the fill line and below the full line.

Add a little, check level with dip stick, if still low, add a bit more and recheck.
Repeat above steps until full.

If one quart of Oil is the difference from top x to bottom x then by filling it to the top x you are running your engine with approx 20% more oil than the bare minimum, right?

Is there a valid benefit for using 20% more oil? Other than a safeguard for slipping below the bottom X or longer oil changes because of more fluid diluting the dirtyness?

You can get wet in a pool, you can get wet in an ocean.
