Oil temperature and VTEC
#1
Now that the weather has cooled a little I find that it takes much longer than I remembered to get the engine up to temperature if I leave it in the garage without starting it for several days. I

This time of year my car can sit up to 2 weeks without being started and not had the problem you speak of, as matter fact my car runs so much better this time of year as opposed to August.......

Hmmm... Facing the same weather as you, plus a couple days of not driving recently because of the holidays, I haven't had any symptoms like that. As soon as it hits three bars, VTEC works like a charm.

Mine also takes longer to warm up, but I never bring it over 6000 untill its fully warmed, My limiter hits at about 7000 and VTEC works fine just before that. And after its warmed up works just fine and is very consistant.
Only after that FPR mod. I noticed very slight hesitation when cold and kept at a steady throttle position. But the VTEC engages just fine. I am also using 5w-30 synthetic.
Do you have any mods?

Chris, I've read more than one post on this board and the old board that have "VTEC fails to engage..." and "Mobil-1" in the same post.
It would be simple to switch to a non-synthetic oil and see if it made a difference.

The Mobil-1 explanation does not make any sense to me but if it happens again, it is worth a try. I doubt I will work through this easily, and as intermittent as it is I doubt Honda will be any help.
This morning it was 39 degrees and I have driven 30 or so miles with no problems at all. It only seems to happen in cool weather when the car has not been started for three or more days.

I have now confirmed that this is not warm-up issue but simply is an intermittent problem that started as the weather turned cooler. The car sometimes refuses to build power and it is not consistent and may happen anywhere from 5000 rpm to 9000.
When I accelerate sometimes it hesitates or builds rpm at less than a normal rates, and then at times

I have no idea what could be your problem. Im having a similar problem with my Dodge Ram with a hesitation to rev or revving slower, at first I thought I had water or sediment in the tank but it was drained and thats not the problem. My dealer refuses to acknowledge the problem and I can't prove it since it is intermittent. I know how you feel.
