Default Which Oil Should I Switch To

Hey guys....looking for a decent oil for the S2K...it is my daily driver but i do my share of spirited driving....thinking of going to synthetic but I dunno...have been running regular Shell 10W30

what do you guys recommend...looking for something that will:

1) good life (daily driver) but also good performance (for the occasional backroad runs)
2) good for cold and warm weather (I live in NY)
3) doesn't cost a fortune
4) preferably something I could buy at a major auto parts store (Autozone, R&S Strauss, etc...)

p.s. i've heard of alot of brands: Mobile 1, Red Line, Royal purple, Castrol, Pennzoil, etc..

thanks in advance

Mobile 1. I use it and have never had issues with it. Besides, would Porsche use it from the factory if it was not good oil??

Also, I see how much money you have spent on mods so spending another 30bucks on good oil every 3000 miles probobly won't kill you.

Yes, they would if they got a good price on it. What a manufacturer uses is no indication of quality, its just a indication of good marketing on the part of that provider.

oil is oil, there are better oils than others but in this day and age there is no bad oil, just good and better. Porsche uses what they do because they got a good price on it and its good enough to not blow their motors while still under warranty, that is the goal of every manufacturer.

I run Mobil 1 in my new cars (GMC truck and S), good ol Castrol 20-50GTX in my daily cars because they can't handle modern synthetics and AMSOIL in my motorcycle. Most likely will switch to AMSOIL in my new cars as well just because that way I can stock 2 types of oil instead of 3 in my limited space garage.

i use quaker state horsepower, i do not burn oil, it still looks clear after 3k. and isn't real expensive.
i used to use mobil one synthetic in my 2000 civic si but i noticed when i used that i burned a quart and a half every 1k. so i switched to castrol and didn't have that problem.

for bearings in our helicopter (engineer speaking), the biggest tradeoffs i saw in the trade study report (that i didnt write) were life of the bearings vs decreased friction, and heat transfer properties were also significant because we were using oil cooling. from that type of perspective, comparing castrol's 10w-30 to mobil's 10-30 wont introduce any measurble differences. honda speccing 10w-30 oil is what made those choices.

if hearsay is ok, i often hear that high quality, full synthetic oils dont need to be changed as frequently (ie instead of changes recommended at 3k miles, recommendations range from 5k to 10k with full synth). less often, i've heard full synthetic is better for 'thermal breakdown,' but never from anyone that can tell me just what 'thermal breakdown' is.

well I should also mention that I've got 32K miles on her so far...and according to the manual oil change intervals are every 7,500 miles now...and that's a honda recommendation meaning that it's over engineered and that you could exceed that without a problem...I still change my oil regularly not ever 3k but prob 5-6k at this point.

I've been thinking of switching to synthetic but I'm just not sure what's preferable for our engine...def don't mind switching to synthetic...yes I could afford the extra $30 lol....just need to know what's best for a daily driver that sees the occasional spirited backroads drive...the adds on tv have been playin in my head and there is just too much to choose from...Q Horsepower looks to be another good option....what about Royal Purple or Pennzoil Synthetics??
