I took my car into the dealer today to get my 15K mile service.

After bringing it to the dealer today:

which is 180 degrees from the normal:

Thanks pelliss2k. I should have thought of it in the first place. I wonder why the tech put it in backwards

Looks like it's rotated 180 degrees. Pull it out a little, turn it around and put it back in.

hmmm... that would explain the burning oil smell I had when I drove it 30 miles back home! Next time, I'm going to do a quick check under the hood before I drive off from the dealer.

I notice in your 2nd picture (dipstick correctly positioned) there are signs of fluid on the left hand side corner of your engine (below the rocker cover) - I have also seen this on mine (I cleaned it off, and nothing came back) Anyone know what it is/where it might have come from?

DOH! Not sure if I'd say they were a "dumbass" as one of our young posters stated, but obviously the tech at the dealer was either not paying attention, or knew a little less than we would all like for him/her to be working on our cars alone. I usually ask the dealer to meet with the master tech that works on my car whenever possible....and I guess after seeing this, I will also inspect under the hood after I get my car back, just in case.

That's scary. Which dealer did you take it to??? Looks like they don't know how to check the oil. I guess they should be commended for finding the dipstick in the first place.

The dealer is good and highly recommended in our area. It's a minor mistake probably due to an inattentive tech.

If its the dealer I am thinking about my car is there today and I have complete faith in their abilities and customer service. I have
accidently put my dipstick in backwards and have left it like that for many miles. No difference that I noticed, no oil leaking or anything.
So I guess I am a DUMBASS also

BTW, for 10.00 I was able to get a Infinity I35 rental car. It is pretty sweet. Much better than pellis' quality rental or Rylan's POS that he had.

Yup, that's the one. I really like thier service department. Are you getting a TSB done? I didn't even ask about a rental car since they will drive me to Palo Alto.
