About a quart and a half in 5000 miles.

Off topic: how come so many people change their oil before 7500 miles? The owner's manual ( at least the one for MY 02) recommends keeping the original factory oil for the first 7500 miles barring unusual circumstances (e.g., continual severe stop and go driving, cold weather, lots of dust in the air or frequent short drives).

Mine seems to be using oil at a rate of 1.5-2 quarts every 3000 miles. I've got 6200 miles on my car now and i've probably spend 3 quarts or so topping it off. I had the oil changed at 3754 miles since any type of driving in this region will be considered severe.

My car was not VTECed until about 650 miles and I never got up to 9,000 until about 800 miles. I left the OEM oil in until 4,500 miles, and continue to do oil changes with regular mineral oil not synthetic. My car has done an autox and a high speed driving school. It is an '02 I received in May and got up to 11,500 miles before I put it into winter storage.

My oil consumption has been extremely low - I checked 0.1 > 0.5 qt

1.5 quarts during break-in, 0-4,000 miles
1 quart from, 4,000-7,000 miles
.5 quart from, 7,000-9,000 miles

will probably end up adding a 1/4 of quart before i hit 10,000 miles when i get my oil change(every 3,000 miles here). After break-in I switched to Kendall GT-1, 10W-30 non synthetic. Like everybody on this board preaches, keep an eye on your oil level

since my last oil change, I've put about 2600 miles and my milage is now at around 19500. I checked the oil this morning and I now have two X's. I'm wondering why my oil is pretty low. I hardly VTEC, but often I'll bring it to 5krpm. I do much city driving and hardly freeway driving, is all this expected?
