Default Oil Consumption kililng me

For the past couple of months the S has been buring up oil extremely quick. Im always afriad of the car running out of oil.. I check it every two weeks but to give an example. I did an oil change and put 5 qt of oil two weeks ago. I normally drive the car pretty easy, mabey 1 vtec every 2 days or so, and when i checked the oil yesterday, the dipstick was right ontop of the L. I then put another quart in. Im using the 10 30w oil. Should i use 10 40w or something. Thanks..

How many miles your car has? If it has more than 15k or so, it shouldn't consume this much in 2 weeks( sound like 4 qt). Did you change the oil yourself? Did you run the engine for a few min after change the oil, and check to see if more oil was needed( assuming you changed the filter at the same time too)?

One "X" on the dipstick equal to 1 qt or so. If you're at the "L" mark, added 1 qt is far less than enough, IMO.

Yes i let the car run for 10 min before i checked it. it has 40k miles on it now and i dont think that dipstick is really that realiable since another time i had an issue, the level was right under the l. I put two quarts of oil and when i checked it again, it was at H already. When i talked to honda they said its normal for it to burn oil. I use castry syntec-blend. I chanced the oil myself. Ive done it like this ever since i purchased the car used with 20k miles on it.

is it bad to use a thicker oil like 10 40w. would that solve the problem or help it at least.

I thought it was agreed upon that the distance btwn the low and high marks is 1 quart. And in btwn these marks is approx 5 X's. Therefore, one X equals 1/5 of a quart.

Following your logic someone would need to put in 5 quarts because they're at the low mark.

add 1 quart if you're at the low mark.

Great ill remember that. I still dont understand why this engine eats up oil like your racing it everyday... but theres not much we could do i guess.

1. The S need 5.5 quarts of oil.

2. The distance from L to H is 1 quart.

I would definitely check for a leak if you are burning through a quart a week.

Good luck

try a different brand of oil, try synthetic, or try 10-40w. or maybe have a mechanic do a leak down , and a compression test. good luck and let us know what happens.

If this happened suddenly, you might check for fresh oil spots where you park. If the filter or drain plug didn't get seated properly, you might have a bit of a leak.
