Oil Changes!
#1
Okay it's that time! I have decided after calling the local dealership that I am going to do the oil change myself. I think I am going to stay with a standard non-synthetic oil (any recommendations). Do I have to go to the dealership to get the OEM oil filters? Are there any problems getting to the oil pan drain plug?
Thanks,

Order all your bits and parts for the car from Trevor at www.honda-accessories.com/s2000.html
They are FAR less expensive than any dealer, plus they are a sponsor...!
I went with Mobil at the first change at 7k miles. Oil changes have been discussed ad infinitum, try using the search function for more info.
Also, I do all the work on the car myself. Oil changes are so easy...good choice on doing it yourself.

Filters are cheap, mail order will probably save only a buck or two. Filter size is very common, so you can get Fram, Castrol or Mobil 1 filters easily also. I found that jacking up the car on the right side greatly eases the access to the drain plug. The manual recommends changing the washer on the drain plug at each change. I think it's a standard 14mm washer (dealers have them for a few cents, they are included if you buy a Honda filter).
Have fun.

The oil change is a piece of cake compared to most other cars.
The drain plug can be removed from the top if you have the right length socket wrench and extender (although you may need to get it started from underneath if it's been overtorqued). I jack my car up on the left side anyway, though, because my catch pan is too tall. This also helps the oil to drain more completely, IMO.
You can safely use any premium mineral-based oil that meets specs. Use 5.5 quarts (not the amount in the manual, which I think is 5.1) and believe what the dipstick tells you. Consider switching to synthetic at your second or third change.
Good luck.
