Official S2k "Spin Out" thread

Light snow + bald tires = 3 x 360's across 4 lanes of highway and one careless driving charge from the O.P.P.
Positive side to all this...Im getting a brand new C West Bodykit compliments of my insurance compnay (I guess they are good for something) and a new paint job...

I spun out at pretty high speed (over 70) into a ditch and rolled/fliped. Completely my fault. Drove like a douche bag. Top was down, weather was perfect, passenger and I were fine. (a little bruised up)
be carefull out there...

I dare say that until you relearn, you are at risk.
Let off the gas or hitting the brakes when cornering hard can get you into trouble.
There are too many ways to get into trouble to list, so I suggest searching for keywords like "spin" and "crash" and reading the threads.
Best way to learn RWD is on an autocross course or at a driving school. With the S2000 one or the other should be mandatory.

I spun out on an on ramp the first week I got my S. I'd never driven a RWD car hard before, the last RWD car I had I didn't know how to drive it well enough to spin out ('91 MR2 Turbo). I was doing about 50-60 mph on a ramp I knew had no traffic on either side (you could see clearly) and had a wide road to go on. It wasn't particularly cold and I have plenty of tread on my tires, but I let off the gas coming around and the ass end swung out. I did a 360 and stalled it in the middle of the road.

A year or so ago a friend of a friend got a new Evo. We all talked about the importance of getting some track/autocross time, and the kid had absolutely no intention of driving the car hard until he had some track time under his belt. He'd had the car about three days and was leaving a party at a restaurant (no drinking), and another friend took off like a bat out of hell in his 350Z. The kid with the Evo took out after him, and upon arriving the first turn (about a half mile from the restaurant) promptly lost control of the car (cold tires + too much speed on corner entry + inability to handle the car in a slide) and launched it over a cliff, through some tree tops, through some tree trunks, and into an embankment. The poor guy still has pins holding his skull together, and at last report had lost about 10 years worth of memories. Not sure if he'll ever drive (or walk) again.
The guy had all the good intentions in the world, but fast cars can tempt us into doing stupid things sometimes, even when we know better. Please, be careful, and don't let the car lure you into doing something you'll regret.
