Default Offered as "Certified" but is missing parts

I'm negotiating for a 2003 s2k being sold by a Honda dealer as "Honda Certified Used" under their 150-point inspection program. They seem to have followed the program, replaced some brake pads, etc. The car is in great shape and we're within $500 of my price, but he's stiffening and may not go there. I need ammo and I haven't used this on him yet.....I think it doesn't qualify as Certified. What do you think?
  • The Owners manual is present but the New Car Warranty manual is not. The Honda website states that both must be present.
  • A previous owner installed the large wind blocker plastic from Ricks. The OEM plastic seems to have been lost. Ricks website says damage to the fabric top or frame can occur if the top is operated with their wind blocker down.
Also, my previous used S2000 came with a little wire-bound booklet, about 3"x3" that was a quick reference of some kind. This car doesn't have one. Did one of those come with your car?

Thanks!

Steve

It's a 3 year old car and these things are pretty inconsequential. I think you're nit picking. If you can live with the price and it's fair for the region you live in, trying to get another $500.00 bucks for the lack of these little items is futile.

Thanks for the dose of reality. I was trying to compose talking points and got caught up in it, and you're right. I'd have spoiled a friendly negotiation but for your advice.

Their original price was $24,995 and they responded with $23,600 to my original offer, then I promised to sleep on it. They called me this morning and I offered $22,600 tops. In late afternoon they accepted! They even agreed to perform a compression/leakdown in my presence tomorrow as a pre-condition of the sale, and they'll have one of their car-washer helpers follow me home in my pickup afterwards. It has 36,517 miles on the clock.

Stratocaster, I appologize if my comment about your wind blocker came accross as critisizm of the product. I didn't intend that. I was just thinking of counter-arguements and you helped me out. I saved the Ricks license plate bracket, Voodo shift knob and the camera mount you sold me for my previous S2000. I knew I'd be back. You also refunded my 4.56 gears and diff housing deposit and allowed me to return my uninstalled yellow box after I crashed the first car. You run a first-class outfit!

This car will be treated to your wool floor mats as well. I'm not sure if the grey or the navy ones would look best in this car though. I'd appreciate any opinions about that.

Here's what I'll be driving after tomorrow if the compression test is OK. Same year and color as my first one.

Steve

I did not take it that way, so no harm no foul. I was just trying to point out the value of the product and OEM part in the light of the 500 mark you wanted them to move.

Sounds like you are happy and that is all that matters in the end. Enjoy your new car!

Thanks

Look like a stock battery.
