Default Odd convertible top wear

I put a new top on a few months ago, and two spot have started developing on the driver's side. It looks like the plate in the front and the first bar are wearing against each other. Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions out there?

The spots are getting worse. I need to do something within the next few weeks or they will wear through.

Did you change the elastic straps from bow 1 to bow 2? If so, I wonder if the rivets holding the elastic straps were placed on the top of the bars and not on the sides. Perhaps they would rub against the top enough to cause this.

On my current top, I've placed pieces of felt in certain areas on the frame that looked like they might cause wear if directly in contact with the top material.

I replaced the straps a couple of weeks ago, and the rivets in the side. The wear started long before that anyway. I also put a few patches on the inside.

You do have a 2001 - nine years on a soft top is a pretty good life span. Aside from sanding down any rough edges on the top frame, or adding a patch of material under the top to protect the actual top, there's not much you can do.

The top is less than 4 months old. I already added patches.

Oh wow, that is really bad for a 4 month old top!! Did you install it or did you have it done somewhere? If you had it done I would take it back because something was not done right and is causing the top to wear.

I put the top on myself. I think i found the problem though. The metal that clamps the top onto the second support of the frame wasn't clamped down hard enough. It wasn't quite flush.

Ahhhh, good find. Hopefully it won't cause anymore damage once you fix it.

No kidding! Top up weather is quickly approaching in north GA though. I probably won't find out if the problem is solved until spring.

A couple of the threads are a little loose. Does anyone know of a product that will hold those thread? Some type of glue?

i saw a similar post from a while back and i glued a piece of leather underneath the softop right after i purchased mine... so i wouldnt wear like that... i guess you can either patch it up or buy a new soft top.
