I get the second gear grind occasionally also even when the car is fully warmed up. It's actually kind of embarassing sometimes when I pull away from stop lights and I'm sure everyone around hears that awful metal grinding against metal sound.

I have 2005 s2k with 52k miles. I have the same problem with 2nd and 3rd gears popped out (grind) a few times already. Yesterday my 1st gear popped out, almost stalled and had a loud bang. I thought some one hit me. I guess it's a common problem on the s2k. Honda should issue a recall on their transmission. If more owners would complaint they would take care of the problem. I called Honda Auto Customer Service today and they told me that this is the first time they are hearing this complaint. Anyone else with the same problem please call (800)999-1009 to complain to Honda. Maybe this will help the s2000 owners with their 2nd and 3rd gear problems!

I don't think everyone necessarily has the same problem with 2nd gear grinding. I had a 2nd gear grind issue (even when warm) that turned out to be due to low clutch fluid due to a leaky master cylinder. Check the usual suspects before just blaming Honda.

That said, I do have the 2nd gear pop out on heavy engine braking.

Believe me when i say i have checked EVERYTHING. New trans fluid fixes it for a few months tops.

It's not just the S2k, check out 8thcivic.com, they have HUNDREDS of civic si's with the problem including my old 07 si. Honda just cannot make a performance-y transmission that doesnt have 2nd gear problems.

My 04 grinded a lot and occasionally popped out..which sucked. I changed my tranny fluid (honda mtf) and it went away. 2nd gear doesn't pop out anymore.

The auto syncro thing? Yea there is, but sometimes it helps just to do this. Try it, I swear by it.

I also suffered from (at first) occasional grind shifting into 2nd, always with proper form and the clutch all the way down. It was driving me crazy and it eventually got to the point where I could not drive for an hour or less without it happening, and I was worried for my transmission. Shifting was notchy from 1st to 2nd in my '05...I changed my transmission fluid with stock Honda tranny fluid and ever since I have not had this problem once.
