[QUOTE=vernfin,Nov 3 2005, 12:31 PM] This notchiness going into second seems to be very common.

I had a similar problem until I switched my transmission flluid to penzoil synchromesh and I have not had a grind yet in over 1,000 miles. I found that my car would grind a lot when the transmission was high from a spirited drive or a really hot day. Make the switch its a little more notchy then HTF in the cold but once the car and transmission warm up the gear changes are as smooth a butter! Anyway hope that helps good luck-John

the rest of you need to also re-read the op's first post. notchiness and grinding are diffrent things.
Dude relax. He posted that over a year ago. Why flame him for it now Drink a glass of Metamucil and come back when you're not feeling so irritable

After switching a week ago to the new Honda MTF the notchiness/grindding of the 2nd gear seems to have vanished, hope it lasts but as soon as I feell it become notchy or starts grinding again, I know now to change the tranny oil ASAP

BTW: when I changed the oil (~40K miles) it looked clean and clear, almost like the oil I replaced it with, however the change of the tranny feel was like day and night.

I have that notchy 2nd gear. also get a thump when going into 1st gear.

a few times it popped out of 1st and 2nd on me. scared the hell out of me cause it almost stalls and has a loud bang. This happens when a little cold.

I've been driving stick for 18 years so I'm not a newbie.

cars going to the dealer in the morning to see. 9200 miles right now
did you fix the problem you had with your transmission on S2k? I have the same problem on my 2005 honda s2000. If you did fix, please let me know what was wrong. Thank you.

Try double clutch, worked very nice all the time.

but instead of a normal double clutch that step on clutch completely then releas it, then step on it again and get into second gear. Just release the clutch by about 1/4, then step to the end and get in second gear.

well seems like all of Honda's "performance" cars have this 2nd gear gring and there is more than one transmission between them. Rsx-s, 8th gen civic si, s2k. Mine does this grinding both ways, low rpms and high rpm shifts, but its very rare, like once a month.

You could also bleed the clutch for good measure.

My problem is it wont stick into 2nd when I place it there, which makes it grind. Its getting to be a pain in the ass now. Have to adjust my driving habits. Long story... Must be the Canadian cold.

If your gears are being notchy at all, try this. Put your car into neutral, feet off all pedals. Just give your gas a blip of gas, a quick rev up to 2-3k. It has something to do with the syncros, and it aligns or something like that. After, you will notice your gears are easier to go into. Keep doing this at every stop light, or as often as it needs it. It works well for me.
