I don't want to start a war. I just want others thoughts.
Last October I bought a 2001 Spa Yellow S2k with 4,700 miles. I loved it. Every time I got in it was a thrill to drive and I've owned some quick sports cars in my life. VTEC was like the car and I received the same adrenalin shot.
In June of this year an unfortunate incident, the dealer forgot to tighten the oil plug, made trading for a beautiful 04 Silverstone seem to be a wise choice -- I got a great deal.
I babied her for the break-in period. And then, after what seemed to be an eternity, I was able to hit VTEC. Lots of noise and some boost in acceleration but no screaming adrenalin hit. now after 3,800 miles it gets lousy gas mileage (22mpg in mixed driving) and still no thrill.
Could I have a lemon or is my "seat of the pants" performance indicator just too jaded by the 01's 9k revs.
What's more, this weekend I took a 90 degree curve at the same speed where my old Miata felt like it was on rails and the rear end came out. It was an easy correction but just not right.
At this point if I could get a good price I'd sell it in a heartbeat.
Any of you techies have any ideas?

Try to find someone near you who owns a MY04 and take it for a ride. Something just doesn't sound right with yours. I can honestly say that my MY04 handles better than the MY02 "S" I traded.

Maybe this car was "field tested" by an over zealous salesman who bounced it off the rev-limiter one too many times. How many miles were on the car when you purchased it???

I'm sorry to hear about your unfortunate incident. It's too bad AHM pressured Honda into using the lower-revving 2.2L when all the car really needed was the gearing changes. Notice all the other markets (except here is the US) kept the award winning F20C powerplant.

It is really funny (and sad) how many owners call it Vtech.
