I actually did read an article somewhere saying that the Japanese were concerned by an overall weight gain among the population. The fatter countries need more torque.

Nope, definitely not centimeters. The US S2000 has 11.8 inch front and 11.1 inch rear rotors. That's 30cm and 28cm.
