Default No front plates

About three weeks ago, i got pulled over for speeding from one light to the next. He said he was going 40 behind me and I was pulling away. I find that strange since he was just getting off the freeway and there was no way he could be behind me doing 40, but that is what he said. (btw, it was chp who pulled me over) So I'm about to get on the on ramp. The light turns green in front of me and the red and blue goes on behind me and I say sh*t. So he comes to my passanger side and says "you know, that little stretch of road isnt your personal race track" and I'm thinking, gosh was I going that fast. So he walks up front and sees no licence plate and writes me up a ticket for that. So he tells me the "race track" bit a few more times and lets me go with just that "no front plates" ticket and I'm happy with no ticket for speeding or exhaust (Invidia). But I got a letter in the mail a few days ago to pay that fine and its $135 fine . Does that sound right to anyone. I mean WTF!!! I know I should fight it, but I dont know how. Any suggestions?

BTW sorry for the long intro, had to get that off my chest.

Are you supposed to have front plates?

Yeah, it's illegal not to have one here in CA. But my bro got the same ticket and he only had to pay $10 or $20 to clear the ticket. He drives a civic btw. I dont know, everything for the S seems to be expensive... even tickets..lol

Put the plate on the front, take a picture, go to court, get it reduced or dropped.

Comply with the ticket, show proof of such in court, and your ticket will either be dismissed or at least the fine minimalized. Here in Miami, I would recommend the services of an attorney, but this can be done by you.

Is it illegal in CA to mount the front plates somewhere other than where they are supposed to on the car? I've seen some people fabricate mounts in the bumper ducts.

I got pulled over once in CA just for not having a front plate (no speeding, no moving violations at all). It was like ~$120 fine, but I just put a plate on, went to court and it was dismissed.

Now I live in AZ where they only give you one plate.
