no flames please! swap S2K for Cobra?
First, let me say that I LOVE my S2K. It's the best handling car outside of an exotic as far as I'm concerned.
However, I have always loved the raw power that mustangs have. Ideally, I'd like to get a new Cobra and then put the right parts in it to make it handle as close to the S2K as possible.
1) Is there any chance that I could make a cobra take the twisties just like an S without spending over $5M is mods?
2) If not, then what would it take and how much?
Thanks for your thoughts.

As I've read on the boards and from various members that have traded in their S2000 for Cobras, the Cobra ain't that bad a handler as most people make them out to be.
Go drive one.

Might want to refer to this thread as well.
Different views regarding both vehicles.
Good luck.

Before my S2K I owned a '95 Mustang GT as my daily driver, and my wife currently drives a '02 Mustang GT, I am also active in several local Mustang boards and clubs, so I have quite a bit of knowledge about Mustangs.
As far as the Cobra goes, it has an Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) since '99, which means it handles much better in the twisties than the "live axle" Mustang GT and Mustang V6 do... unfortunately due to the supercharger, intercooler, and it's iron block ( which replaced the aluminum block found in the 99 and 01 Cobra's ) the '03 Cobra is a little nose heavy. The chasis is nowhere near as rigid as the S2K, and with 350 RWHP the car can be a handful if you're not used to the power. I recommend you go to a local Ford dealership and drive a Cobra, you'll either love it or not, personally if I had been able to buy a '03 Cobra for what I bought my '01 S2K that's what I'd be driving right now, but it wasn't in the cards.
Another good thing about the Mustang is their HUGE aftermarket, IMO no single car has an aftermarket as large as the Mustang which means it can be modified to be very quick for very little money. Just an example is swapping rear end gears to 4.10's would set you back about $300 - $400 with parts and labor, while the S2K would be closer to $1K. Also you can probably gain a good 50 HP for under $1K, get a CAI, exhaust, and smaller pulley, and you'll be looking at almost 400 RWHP.

BTW, as far as Ford reliability goes, my '95 GT had 118K miles on it, and they only things that had to be fixed was the alternator @ 70K miles. Other than that it was a great car, and up until the day it was totaled it got me 20 MPG.
