Default Newbie questions galore!

Hey all,

I'm new to this board and I've got a couple of questions about purchasing a used s2000. First of all, what's better: purchasing certified pre-owned or from a private seller? There are obvious pros and cons for each, but is one option better than the other? Also, my plan is to buy this car sometime this summer - is this a bad time to buy? I understand that the warmer the weather, the higher the prices for a convertible, but exactly how much more expensive will s2000s be? How much do you think a 2004 s2000 with less than 10k miles will cost this summer? Finally, are there any other tips and suggestions you guys can give me?

Sorry for the barrage of questions, I'm just so excited about getting an S! You guys sure are lucky to be driving around in one of the most beautiful cars ever made. Anyhow, hopefully this will be the first of many posts I will make in the future. Thanks!

Jim

Welcome to the board and congrats on the decision to get a future S2000.

Certified vs. private is a tough one, to me it depends mostly on the condition of the car and the price. Run a Carfax to see the history, look for something with low mileage and no signs of crash damage. You'll probably get a better deal if you can find a single-owner car that hasn't been abused. The Stealership might offer an extended warranty, but the track record of warranty support from Honda hasn't been great for the S2000.

If you live in a snowy climate you can usually get a great deal on a convertible in the winter. But, waiting 6 months probably won't make much difference. I'd look around a lot until you find the right one, then buy regardless of the time of year.

An '04 with 10k will probably be around $25,000 by next summer.

Tips? I'd say read the forum as much as you can and test drive a bunch of cars before buying. I prefer the 9,000 RPM cars myself, like an '02-'03. The S2Ki FAQ has a lot of helpful information: click here
