Default Newbie cost questions

Hi all, been looking for an s2000 for a couple weeks now and I'm trying to find a decent car on a budget. A lot of the cars in my budget 10-11500 that come up for sale need some work. Most of them need a new top, some of them need a clutch and others need simple paint work.

How much is or should a clutch cost to replace? What's the total cost to change the top as they all rip??

Thanks in advance, glad I found this forum before I bought the car.

if you're on a budget, do the work yourself. You'll learn a ton and save just as much. simply buying a factory service manual will save you thousands.

good luck

Wish I had the time and patience to learn that now.

$10,000-11,500 cars are probably going to be higher mileage cars and/or need some work.

When I was shopping around for quotes on the labor cost to replace the top, I was quoted $520 up to around $900.
Keep in mind this is the rate for Bay Area shops, it may vary depending on where you are.

The Robbin's canvas top sells for ~$700 on topsonline.com

I would say expect to spend around $1,300 to almost $2,000 on the top and labor combined.

Like darcyw said, if you're on a budget do the work yourself.
There are two very comprehensive guides on this site on how to retrofit a canvas top (I am assuming you are buying an earlier MY s2k based on your budget)
I personally had no clue what I was doing and with no previous experience, managed to replace my top (with help).
Having an extra pair of hands as well as plenty of patience and time will be helpful.

Good luck on your search!

Thanks for the info, I called the local honda dealership to check on pricing for the top and they quoted me at 1300 just for the top.
