New younger owner, first RWD vehicle, raining...

[QUOTE=Highrpmek,Jun 4 2007, 07:02 PM]I understand Chris Stack but there are good people/drivers on this forum who have spun in the rain, and it wasn't a matter of talent, lack of proper maintance or any other circumstances they could have prepared for.

Pictures from my mishap after I had to react a car in front of me, losing control in the rain, and having to decide, median or their rearend/driverside door.
My comments do not relate to something like taking evasive maneuvers in reponse to someone else's driving inability, they relate to some guy spinning himself into a tree for no particularly good reason.
I apologize for not making that clear earlier.

That being said, this car is less forgiving of impulsive behavior or lapses in concentration. Two things that the actual demographic of used S2k buyers fit into shockingly well.
Oh well, more used parts for me. I'm just glad the car is so structurally well engineered that people are generally not hurt from their mistake.
I'm anticipating that in the very near future, the rate of "totaled" vehicles is going to skyrocket as the MY2000s reach 75% of replacement cost with just a slashed top / stolen seats or a couple of bent control arms and fender damage.
I personally took your initial post's tone to suggest you were one of the know-it-all "I'm a good driver, I swear!!!" sophomores that was a future accident waiting to happen... and I do hang out in Car Talk.

All kidding aside. It pains me to see how immature people get access to this car and then wreck it (just as easily as they could wreck anything else) and proclaim to the world about how "dangerous" this car is.
It's a lightweight, rear wheel drive car with a high output engine and a non-linear powerband (I mean V-TEC engagement and the sudden performance boost).
In the rain, you drive it sensibly, make sure your tires are in good shape and that's all there is to it.
The "stories" are always better and I guess that's why we keep hearing them.

A good driver in the sense that I understand car control, changing conditions, and know when to responsibly run the car out a little versus drive carefully and smoothly? Absolutely.

Achtung6, good post.
At first I was a little put off by Chis's satire but I can see where he's coming from. I'm sure after surfing this board for as long as he has, he's developed a bit of a distaste for some of the general "trends" that develop here and he's just venting... at the cost of our pleasure.
Eh, what ever.

No, I want to disprove the myth that it can't be done, and point out that people who DID wreck their car were either driving on bald tires or dicking around driving like idiots...or both.
So....

[QUOTE=Chris Stack,Jun 4 2007, 06:30 PM]I dunno man, if I can't make fun of 17 y/os romping on the throttle in the pouring rain and slamming their new car Daddy just bought them into a light pole, I dunno if this is really the kinda place I want to hang around.
