I just bought a 2002 with 26,700 miles on it from a private party for $16,500. It was an opportunity to good to pass up... it didn't make sense for me to spend more money on a newer car, especially since this one was basically new?!
Warranty may be more important to ya though... :/

How much was the car to get is for 29.5k OTD? Around 26 or 27k?
anyway, i've had it for a year and there have been no issues at all (knock on wood). the only thing that really annoys me is the seatbelt squeak. i have been tempted more than once to put some felt or something on the corner of the seat so the noise goes away.

i don't really remember. i think sales tax in VA is around 3.1%, which would be around $900, and since i negotiated only OTD figures, i don't remember the breakdown of the BS "doc fee" and all that other stuff. i think the price on the car alone was around $28,100 though. it still had the plastic on it, though it had been at the dealer for awhile.

Anyway, if you're concerned about prices, I'd definitely go with a new '07. The '08 S2Ks are basically the same, except with a few added creature comforts. I'd just go with '07 because all the MY S2000s look the same.

From after looking around a bit this is about what I feel these cars are selling for... Accurate?
New
07 - $27-28
08 - $30
Used (certified with under 20k miles)
06 - $24
07 - $26
What do you guys think? Anything else to consider? (ie. is new cheaper for insurance? or anything? pricing look right?)

I would take the new.

I think any person buying a sports car used needs to realize people are going to drive a sports car like a sports car. same would go for a buick, anyone that owns a buick is probably old and a slow driver, no offense to anyone. That being said, you need to consider the damage that may have been done to it. anything more that 20-30k, i would say has a consider chance of being significantly damaged by a stupid, careless driver. any car with more that 2 owners is probably not a great idea either, especially if you are looking to keep it a long time. If you are buying used, try and get one fairly new (06-up) with between 8-18k miles. long enough that the car was broken in and not long enough for it to have incurred any significant damage (poor driving, poor maintenance, etc.) Just my opinion, but new is always better. especially with the S, considering new isnt to unattainable. i do see most new 07-08 (base and cr) going for between 27 and 32 tops plus ttl. i saw a cr for 31000 with ac/audio. i believe msrp is around 37k. take advantage of the 0.9 too.

Got my 07 new from the dealer last May for $29,500 + $ 1,700 to extend warranty to 7yr/90,000mi. Could have bought used for less, but on a sports car I'd much rather pay a little more and know for sure how its been driven and maintained, and the extended warranty gives a good bit of extra peace of mind.

I personally believe if you have the cash for new, go for it. I just don't feel the price difference between new and used is great enough to entice going for a second hand.
Last Oct, I was 30.4 OTD, 27.7 for the car itself. Red had the best deals happening for 07 as they were not selling as well. Get the color you want; if you settle, you may grow to love it or you may regret the purchase.

As far as the color thing goes, that is one of the biggest debates I am having. Red s2k's seem to be everywhere and dealers are begging for them to be taken away. Like I mentioned, Laguna blue and gray are my two favorite colors. Red seemed to be growing on me but I am not sure if the color is growing on me or if it is the deals. I am an accountant so I can't help but to pinch a few pennies here and there. My worry with red: flashy colors attract cops, people thinking it looks girly (not me personally, but I feel people might look at a red convertible as being girly), and lastly if they are not selling now will that hurt my resale value since that color does not seem to be in too high of demand.
