Can anyone suggest the best tires for variable road conditions? Snow has just hit England and while the main roads are cleared up and are no problem to drive on, most minor roads stay snow covered or get compacted to ice. It's not been easy getting up even small ice covered inclines, although it's been a laugh trying.

Jeesh, do I have to know calculus to buy a friggin' set of tires nowadays? I took it in college, but that was over 30 years ago and it hardly ever comes up in polite conversation.
