Default New problem with my wonderful S2000....

Ok, so some of you may remember me with my problem of the steering wheel not being level when driving straight (they said the tie rods need to be adjusted, regardless of whether it has been aligned 4 times already and thats part of the alignment). Well a new problem has reared its ugly head and I am clueless, and the dealer seems to be too!

Anyways, recently the handling of the car has gone to crap. When you are over 40 mph and you press the accelerator down you can feel the car shimmy to the left, then when you let off the gas it shimmy

My first guess would be alignment issues or tire pressure, but you've ruled that out....Perhaps unbalanced or bent rims, and or bent suspension components???

DragonHeart, The car's rims are good, and it has never hit anything. Could it be something with the differential and how power is being dispersed?

yeah i would say differential too. Who is aligning your car? They must be only doing a regular 4wheel computer alignment of steering angle to thurst angle, without even checking to see if the steering wheel is straight...

just wanna ask the obvious...are the wheels on the correct side?meaning you got the fronts on the front and the rears on the rear.

don't think this would be because of the diff but more like it would hurt it.

Might be a bad tire. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to test that, but I have experienced it on other vehicles where multiple alignments were not correcting the problems.

have you hit a pothole, lowered your car, installed new tires, ect.. I'd definetly reinstall tires. Make sure the front are in front, back in back and that they are on correctly..I'd also make sure all the suspension components look ok.. Is something rubbing agaisnt another? Try measuring each side to see if one is higher than the other.. if it is, something in your suspension is bent. How many miles do you have on the car?

Cool, thank you all for your suggestions. I have hit a pot hole recently so it might have caused a problem. The dealer is the only one to do work on the car, but hey who knows. I think the wheels are on correctly, smaller in front, larger in back huh?

I appreciate any and all suggestions.

The guy who does my alignment sets the steering wheel level if needed every time he aligns my car. Also are they setting the alignment for the road crest or for a flat road?

What type of tires do you have? I & some friends had some Kumho's that "When you are over 40 mph and you press the accelerator down you can feel the car shimmy to the left, then when you let off the gas it shimmy

You didn't think to mention this in your original post?
