New MX-5 Miata or used S2000?
#21
I actually sat in a MX-5 I believe this past Tuesday at a Miata trackday. The cars were protoypes and didn't even have VINs. Roomier than the S but I didn't drive it although test drives were available.
BTW, I smoked every Miata on that track in my group.

I owned a 2001 Miata, and I loved. I can safely say that it is still my favorite car. if I could fit in it better, I might consider getting another one. I can't wait to test drive the new one.
The Miata = MORE FUN.
The S2000 = MORE FAST.
The miata is more of a fun toy. It happens to be damn quick.
The S is more of a tool of speed to disect tracks and winding roads. Also fun.
What is your focus? Speed or Fun?

Lots of you have asked questions to the tune of "which do I prefer? fun or fast?". I have had (an 02 Z06) and will have this Thanksgiving (the new Z06) my fast car. The choice between a used S2000 or the NEW MX-5 is of course for fun. Having said that, I prefer to have fast and fun together. Where I work, I don't feel safe at all parking the Z06 there all day. That's why I need another fun/fast car. Thanks a lot for your input, EXCEPT wwwracer. Are you so insecure about yourself? That you must bring up "gay" when talking about a car? Sheesh, it's a vehicle, engineered for a great driving experience. You have bigger issues if you're worried about what people think when driving a sports car like a Miata. Yes, I said it, the Miata is a sports car, the S2000 is just more so, and the Z06 is even more,....

I think it will come down to a drive. Apparently some people have more fun with the Miata and some enjoy the overall package of the S2000 more.
In my experience, the modified Miata I drove was, in every way, the S2000's "little brother". Even with all the suspension mods, handling felt on par with an AP2 and of course the power just wasn't there. The car by NO MEANS was boring or not fun, but it seemed to be a 7 where the S2000 was a 9.
I can't speak for newer Miatas though, the one I drove was 96-98 I want to think. Maybe the next gen cars have changed, but if you are comparing stock to stock, I think the S2000 is hands down more fun.
But, what do we know, it's your car and both the S2000 and the Miata will be a slow car compared to that Z06!

If you have already ordered a C6 Z06 () then I think the MX-5 is the way to go. With pure power and performance in one car, you might as well have something small and tossable. I'd go for the car that contrasts more.
Best of luck either way. Nice taste in automobiles.
