By the time you add actual glass to one of the CF hardtops, they're going to weigh just as much as the OEM top anyway.

Most carbon fibre isn't any much lighter than aluminium, because of the way it's all put together.

Thanks! That's interesting info.

Now I'm even more curious about the weight of the Amuse HT.

A glass window and defroster are for me.

At least it's some kind of rational for being more expensive than the Mugen HT.


If the Amuse HT uses the Miata window, perhaps a company like Seibon could use the same window for an Amuse or OEM CF replica HT.

Now that Seibon has the OEM mounting hardware for their Mugen-style HT, I say we approach them with the idea of producing the Amuse or OEM CF replica HT.

I think it would be a good idea to try to find 10 owners that are SERIOUSLY interested in purchasing this replica top before approaching Seibon. If they aren't selling many of those Mugen copies, they might not be ready to try again so soon.

How many people do you know that are buying a CF HT to save weight???

I don't recall seeing even one CF HT on any competitive S2000 in the States! I think most racers would rather spend that money on tires, brakes, engine, etc.

The point of having a CF HT is the same as having custom paint, or any mod that is not strictly for performance. Some people appreciate it, some don't.

When you say "considerable expense," I assume you are speaking for yourself. It would be ridiculous to shell out for a piece like this, without having fairly deep pockets!

That's actually what I did with my OEM HT instead of painting it black (I baught it used in Silverstone color)...





It's wrapped over with genuine cf fabric soaked in polyester and clear coated

There has never been any doubt in my mind that I WILL have a CF HT. I don't know which one I want, or when I will get it, though.

I have always wanted a CF OEM-style HT, because it matches my theme of covering the OEM parts with CF.

The "CF sauce" is reserved strictly for the interior and trunk of the S. I'm trying my best not to use it in the engine compartment, and I want to use only real CF on the exterior- and only 1x1 pattern.

I'm pretty sure that wrapping a standard OEM HT with real CF will not look good.

I hope I'm wrong, because I would love to wrap the OEM HT and OEM side mirrors.
