I have had my car for 10 months, and almost since the beggining I had a bad odor coming from the car after hard driving. I didn't react based on reports from this board that it could be waxes/paints on the underbody gradually burning away, and it would dissapear with time.

But lately, I had the smell every time I drove the car, so I took in to the dealer to have it checked out. The tech guy took the car out and at 70 mph, in 6th gear, he reved it up and droped the clutch, resulting in a massive slip and associated smell! He looked at me and said "You are getting a new clutch."

I got the news from him today that Honda Sweden (after much arguing) will replace the clutch under warranty. Yay!

What should I be checking for on the replacement? Is the result of the slipping clutch a faulty disk or is the pressure plate causing un-even pressure that is the underlying problem? Has Honda redesigned only the cluth disk, or will I be getting a new pressure plate and bearing as well?

If it is as bad as many others, all of the components will need to be replaced because of burned surfaces. Look for a new flywheel, clutch plate, pressure plate, and bearing.

Same problem with mine, failed at 8400 miles. I got lucky because my 5th gear synchro was defective so my dealer replaces all my bearings and my clutch plate with the updated one.

Thanks Cdelena!

I checked again with the dealer and the tech guy assured me that all components you mentioned were going to be changed at once.
