new car burning oil
i just got my car it hasn't burned any oil as of yet.. what kind of oil would i be advised to put in not to offset what's already in there.. and also how much oil does each x stand for so i won't over fill and have the engine lock up.

For the first 7 to 10,000 miles, it is recommended that you stick with conventional (non-synthethic) oil, people here use Castrol, valvoline, etc, so long as it's 10W30.
I believe each X on the dipstick equals about 1/4 quart.
Cheers,
Daniel

I wouldn't get too anal about just 1 or 2 "x's". All of the x's (from the bottom "add" line to the top "full" line) represents about 1 qt. Wait till you are just under about 1/2 on the dipstick, then put 1/2 a qt in and you'll be fine. It's harder to try to put just 1 "x" worth in.
Use any brand name 10W30 dino oil.

Just a note- Your thread subject is a bit misleading, I thought I was about to read that your car was burning oil. Please think twice about the subject before you post it, there are those who think our car is nothing but trouble and seeing "new car burning oil" just adds fuel to that fire.
