i love how everyone speculates as to what mods you could do to a civic to pump up the power and beat a stock s2000. okay... its just my opinion but shouldn't we be looking at the original equiptment that will be offered on the new si? any car has the potential to be faster if you replace enough parts and tweak it enough. its always about drag racing..

It's not so far fetched. The NSX is more than twice the price of S2000 which is a little less than twice price of a civic. And we're talking about a theoretical civic anyway. Put it this way, the NSX - a 15 year old design, is comparable to a 5 year old s2000. It's not unfair to compare the s2k with the sports/sporty car next in the honda line (RSX/Civic).

yeah different market segment with civic being wider audience...
[---------------civic--------------------------------------------------------]
edge, tuners, enthusiats econono, reliable, family
[---------S2000---------]
with different models: i.e. SI, civic will be appealing to those who are also applealed to S2000 with economy in mind...
say sub 6sec 0 - 60mph, high rpm 8-9000 red line...
i doubt it will be competing against s2000, but with other cars in similar class: neon, ford svt, cobalt, mr2...
Civic: + better engine + edgier driving experience + rear wheel design + open roaster + 2 seats + sexy looks = S2000
all extras define what's known as class.

Because the civic will probably respond better to mods than the S2000 will...and not just for drag racing (no one brought up NOS )
modding opens up an infinite back and forth debate because the possibilities are endless. when you mod nowadays you can barely call the car by its name considering all the go-fast racing parts have stolen the original vehicle's identity. saying the si will be able to outperform an s2000 with modification is stupid and obvious. thats like saying a chevy aveo is a good performer because the engines potential has not been realized in stock form. unless you truley love to gut your car and mod it with warranty-stripping parts, you would never enjoy the same driving experience an s2000 can offer in a civic.
