Default New '04, is the breakin > 5500RPM needed?

Just curious, my 04 S2000 had 185 miles when I bought it so I am sure the test drivers took it over 5500 RPMs. I have been mostly good about it but it's really hard to contain myself! I am almost to 400 miles so only 200 miles to go, I can't wait!

By the way what is that sudden burst of power at 6500 RPMs?

Thanks, S2000 newbie

Be patient. The car is going to last you a lot of miles. Don't jeopardize the long term health of the engine because you don't want to wait a couple hundred more miles.

i know in the 00-03s vtec engages in 5500rpms however the breakin period said to be safe stay under 4000rpms ... yes it was VERY difficult take her on the freeway and you'll be there in no time. DOn't worry about the previous test drivers because you'll go nuts... just know you did your best

It does say to keep it under 5500RPM for the first 600mi in the Owner's Manual.

congratulations!

there seems to be as many variations on the break in process as there are colors of S available....

I chose to gradually push my car a bit harder as i approached 600miles - with a few brief trips to VTEC in the process

only seat of the pants knowledge from me - there are several technical discussions about this if you do a search - but I think/agree that varied driving and something leaning towards harder (but not radical) rather than granny driving during break in will enhance engine performance in the long run

of course YMMV.

I think that less time reading about it & more time driving it will bring the 600 mile period to an end sooner

Vtec = Variable valve and electronic timing control

V-Tech = phones
