Default Never thought I would ever consider selling...

Just as the title states, I've been toying with the idea of selling my 04 GPW(Pictured attached). I've purchased it back in 2012 with approx 80k miles, as of today it currently sits at 104,8xx. I currently have a pretty fair market offer from a friend of mine to purchase the car. Now the back story.

This is my weekend/fun when I want car. Current daily is a 3rd gen 4Runner. Due to my current work commute and parking situation at my work, it is extremely hard for me to take the s2000 out more often during the week. As a result, I have been putting less and less miles on it every year. Part of me feels that the car should be passed on to an owner who will really take advantage of this amazing machine and drive it like its suppose to be driven, but being as this was my dream car in high school and then finally becoming an owner of one, I am finding it extremely hard to let the car go. My wife and I are at the point in our life where we are looking to start/grow our family, which means the s2000 will get EVEN LESS drive time but I will say that she supports me 100% on keeping the s2000.

With that said, I would be on the hunt for a fun 4dr to take over the spot in the garage and more of daily duties...but nothing out there really stands out to me (s2000 driving experience has really spoiled me). Has anyone else gone through a similar situation and what did you ultimately decide to do? There will probably be instant regret when the S2000 is no longer in my garage but from what I've seen in other threads I've searched, most owners feel the same.

I'd keep it, if you have the space and financial means. I have an S2000 and Triumph Daytona. I don't have time to use either of them. But that's okay - both are paid for. And if anything, the S is going up in value. I find that when I'm only able to use them a couple times per month, it makes me enjoy them that much more when I do.

Once your family has grown and everything has settled down, It could be just a few years to several years down the road.. you may kick your own xxx why you sell it.

I'm currently in the same situation. I'm 50/50 about selling it. I put so much time into it, that its gained some sentimental value now. If I do sell it, i''ll be looking for an even better condition S 1-2 yrs later. Walking away from an s2k completely is almost impossible b/c there are not many cars in its price range that can put so much happiness in the driving experience. If you do sell, maybe keep some/all the parts that you put into it and save it for the possibility of another one in the future. GL man.

Had to sell mine years ago, to help get our first house. Was always comparing all the cars ive had to the S2k until recently I was able to finally get another one! And its just as great as I remember! So if I was you I would keep it if you can, even if you don't drive it as much. Because if you change your mind in the future these cars imo will become harder to find and also will increase in value a bit for ones still in decent condition.

If you have the space and the financial means, I would suggest you keep it. There are very few cars on the market like the S2000 and if you're looking for another vehicle to replace it, you're bound to make compromises.

I went through a period of my life where I really wanted a fun engaging car that I can daily drive, but you always end up with some sacrifices / compromises on performance, size, value, etc.

I finally ended up with 3 vehicles that would fit my current needs:
Toyota Sienna AWD (wife's)
Infinit M56x (daily beater)
2005 S2000 (fun car)

Been there, done that. Have owned 23 vehicles and now at 61. Have the 2009 Yellow S2000, 2002 Tacoma (utility-backup truck) 1994 T-Bird (my daily beater and airport car) and MDX.

S2000 is my favorite car. Just a classic. If you can, keep it somehow. Your use will increase later on. I taught my daughter to drive a manual in the S! I don't like to use it in crummy weather or in city rush hour traffic but where we live, in the Sierras, there are tons of twisted 2 lane roads that beckon to my wife and I.

Not in your position but would never sell a car that has been rising in value unless you absolutely have to. Forget the wife in certain decisions, unless her name is Google and even then??? Google is not always correct! And you have a 2004 GPW, enough said. Good luck.

I too would suggest hanging on to your S2000 if you have the space available to do so. You'll always be able to sell your S2000 fairly quickly if you find that you truly need to. But you'll more than likely find it a bit more challenging to find a suitable replacement S2000 as time goes by. By the way, you might consider comparing your annual insurance costs for the car with the amount that S2000s are appreciating in your area each year on average to help make more sense of the situation. I also must admit that if I needed to sell my S2000 and sold it to a friend, I'd probably find it rather excruciating watching my buddy driving around having fun in it.

All that said, there is no way to predict just how much more these cars will continue to appreciate over the years, and while it will certainly be getting harder and more expensive to find nice clean examples in the future, it won't be impossible. Best of luck with your decision.

I'd hang on to the s2000. I don't drive the s2000 much either. I daily a honda pilot and drive each way 51miles to work. Its my family hauler. I had numerous people tell me they sold their s2000 because they needed something fun and can haul a family. Some went to 4dr Si and 4dr STI, they also tell me, I miss the s2000. I'm sure many have heard the same story.
