I'm in a similar position in that I am trying to decide between an '05 and waiting for an '06. Obviously waiting for an '06 means fewer '05s available should the '06 not feel right.
Some have described the VSA as a compromise that shouldn't have been made for the S2000. Others have stated that since you can turn it off, it's no big deal.
In addition, some are concerned about the DBW diminishing the "connection" between the driver and the engine response.
I am actually concerned about the possible linking of the two features. It is my impression that the DBW has been utilized because it is needed for the VSA to work. Since the alternating individual wheel braking and changes to air/fuel intake have to be computer controlled, the VSA and DBW are certainly linked while VSA is enabled.
Whether turning off the VSA tells the DBW not to worry about interacting with VSA and to simply apply air/fuel increases and decreases in strict accordance with the linear movement of the throttle pedal is unclear to me at this time.
Since, in the VSA mode, the DBW feature looks to many other "stability" variables before deciding on the air/fuel volume, I am concerned that it might pause and look for those variables while in non-VSA mode before making it's decision to change the air/fuel volume.

Have a look at this thread. A brochure is posted here that explains pretty well the things you are wondering about:

You might not have noted that my use of the term "air/fuel" is in reference to volume change, as in more or less of the fuel mixture.
As for any lag, I've seen numbers for DBW in the "micro-seconds". This really cannot be considered any kind of lag. The computer can be just as quick as the cable. If "VSA" is de-activated, the DBW throttle still works as it did before.

I would like to think that with all the existing cars out there that has had DBW technology in place for years, that Honda has been doing their homework. Many DBW, manual transmission cars out there have been functioning quite well for some time. I can't imagine Honda would put out something that would work less well.
