need to re-clip roof when closing it?

I agree with 3ngin33r1, reminds me of the people who line their furniture with plastic.. JUST USE IT FFS! Someone was even modest in saying it takes 4 seconds when it takes me about 1.

Why would I clip it? What is the benefit? Why not just leave it unclipped and have one less bit of use on it?
Trust me, I drive my car, I load it up with people, stuff, etc. I track it, and I don't hesitate to hit 9k multiple times daily. I don't stress over anything except door dings and other people bumping into it when parking. Why do I have to unnecessarily use the latches???

The reason I don't latch it every time (if raise the top for shade or in case of rain in the few minutes I'm inside) is that I don't want to wear out the latches. I've heard of peoples' latches no longer holding themselves up after repeated use and I don't want to hurt the mechanism.
It's not the time, the point is to avoid wearing a part out - in my case, at least.

i replaced my strikers when the car was 7 years old.. seriously i don't think this is something you need to worry about.
and to add to what someone else said - i lock my car even in my own garage, so yes i lock it any other time i am not in it.

It's not the strikers that I'm talking about though, it's the latch itself which costs $144 at the dealer (per side) or about $110-120 online (again, per side). Not a huge deal, but again, if I'm not looking for security then I don't see a reason to latch em.
I've always been in the habit of locking cars in my garage as well. Now that I'm in a condo I latch and lock everything! Except for a few times when I left the top down and planned to leave again but didn't till the next day. Fortunately everybody in the building generally knows everyone else and there are cameras everywhere so it's pretty safe.

You're right, it's not a big expense or anything at all.

my S is an 01, and as far as i know it still has the original latches. they're not being used anymore, but when i used the soft top they seemed fine.
i am paranoid about my car so i won't leave the top down or the car unlocked anywhere. i have heard horror stories of people throwing cigarettes and trash in cars with their tops left down, so i won't allow that to happen to mine. i'd be heartbroken!

I used to leave the top up if I was only going for a short drive. My brother would rag (no pun intended) me out for doing that. I just thought that the wear caused would outweigh any benefit of having the top down for those few minutes.
My first S started to show signs of wear (i.e. holes starting to appear), after about four years...I got rid of it.
My second, less than two years and I had a full-fledged hole. The top was replaced for free, and I don't the car anymore.

Oh my god, it's a car! Use it!
Latches wearing out... sure it's happened, one guys car just caught fire, maybe you shouldn't drive at all. Airplanes crash, so don't fly. Don't shave either, razors get dull with use and then you'll have to buy a new one.
