Anyone know a good way to remove some gum from the carpet?

Spot Shot or Griots Garage interior cleaner. 3M adhesive remover works too but may take the color out of the carpet, as will some of the citrus cleaners, and Goof Off.

Are these items available at AutoPalace or similar place, or do I need to order online?

Lacquer thinner works fine, remember to test for colorfastness first. Also remember if there is any adhesive sticking the carpet to the surface behind it (not likely in a car) it will loosen this too. This is the "standard" method I've always used when I used to work in a retail audio store.

I have heard somewhere before to use ice to get the gum brittle and hard, then pull or brush out.

Get a can of "air" like you use on the keyboards. Turn it upsidedown and freeze it! That should be much better than ice. If that dosent work then go for the other stuff.

Ice works and it won't damage the carpet like some of the other chemicals. I wouldn't take a chance with any of the other stuff but it's your call.
