IMO, buying anything except the V1 is a waste of your money. You bought a $32,000 sports car, if your ass is too tight to squeeze out the extra $100 for THE BEST radar detector, you deserve every ticket you get.

Another vote for the V1. The arrows are a great feature and the radar detects signals from quite a distance and over hills

the V1 is getting a bit outdated. the newer 8500/RX65 (they are both now made by the same company) has a few more features. Yes they still don't have the arrows though, I do admit that i like that on the valentine one. I was in the market recently (within the past 60 days) for a new unit. I was set to buy the V1 but decided to look around. the next 8500/RX65 from what I read in tests and talking to people seemed to have a bit better performance and features than the latest V1.

Plus I found the RX65 on the internet for about $250 shipped. I didn't really care much about the cost though as if it saves me from one ticket (or two) that's all I care about. I will mainly use it on bikes though, and the RX65 has built in the stuff to use it on a bike (like earplugs) vs. ahving to pay an additional $50 for it on the V1...

so yeah the V1 is a great detector and hard to go wrong with but IMHO the new 8500 and RX65 are a small step up on the scale. I"m sure that V1 will step up soon with a new model to compete or beat the others but for my money the RX65 seemed to be the best out there...
