Default Near zero mile S2000

I have an opportunity to purchase a year 2000 S2000, black, with under 1000 miles.

Has not been registered for nearly 10 years. Started and warmed-up regularly, then put back into a dry, rodent-free garage and covered.

Outside of old fluids that need replacing, it is an original, unmolested, more-or-less-brand-new car.

Please help me understand how to price this car.

Thanks!

It's really a case of what some people are willing to pay. Some would pay 40-45K for it. Not really what i would pay though...

If you're in the market for a gently used S2000 and want to get bang for your buck, look elsewhere. If you're looking for a pristine example and are willing to shell out thousands more for that novelty, then go for it.

It depends if you are planning to drive and enjoy the car or just park it for the next 15 years then sell it.

I am trying not understand not what I would pay for it, but rather what the marketplace gets for a car with such unusually low mileage.

I've followed the market for some years and most data is for cars with mileage "typical" for the year. So this is a bit tougher to value.

Realize that part of this "valuation" is me selling my wife on another car!

FWIW, I bought my 2005 with only 6,500 miles a couple years ago for $25k. 100% stock and mint. Not a scratch. Not even a crease in the leather seats. Other members have had similar experiences. Granted, at under 1,000 miles on an original AP1, I think the rarity factor goes up a bit. I'm totally guessing, but I'd say that car is worth anywhere from $25 - $35k. When it comes to a car like this, the pricing guides don't apply. It reality, it's worth what somebody is willing to pay for it. If the seller needs to move it quick, he might only get $20k. But if he is willing to wait, eventually somebody will come along and pay top dollar. Eventually.

you'll wipe away any premium you pay with every mile you drive it.

Mechanically a 500mile car is little different from a maintained 5000 mile car.

IMHO, anything over $25k is for a collectable. ROI on that investment is hard to determine - I believe your downside at $25k is limited but your upside is hard to determine
