Just discovered this morning. Still drove to work ok. Would appreciate input from those of you who have had this happen as to having nail removed/hole plugged or what ?
thanks...

Don't drive on it except to drive right to the tire shop.

Get the nail removed and patched from the inside for a temporary fix.

Replace the tire as soon as possible.

You might get away with a patch, but, during the Firestone debacle I read a tire engineer's opinion that any puncture allowed air to get between the layers and thus permanently weakens the tire. That sounds sensible to me. So, replacing the tires is my plan. By the way, that means replacing both tires on that end of the vehicle if you have any significant amount of miles on the tires.

I've had two nails in one rear tire and one nail in the other, and successfully had them plugged. I'm up to 10,500 on these tires, and never had any problems. If I had replaced the tire for each nail, I'd be about $650 out of pocket.

(Why is it we only get nails in the rear tires - never the fronts???)

I've gotten a nail in the front and rear...so i that disproves the nail only in rear tire theory =)

still sucks as the s-02's aren't cheap tires to purchase

I've had 2 flat rears due to nails, one right tire at 3700 miles (bought 2 new S-02) and then a left tire at 6200 miles (bought 1 new S-02). Nobody that I took the car to would patch the tires, which is total BS but that's the way it went.

Try and get it patched from the inside first, you'll save a lot of dough!!

I have successfully patched high performance tires as long as the puncture was not too large or close to the sidewall. I have used patched tires on the track and high speed driving without problems. I think it is unnecessary to spend $200 every time I encounter a nail.

The key is where is the puncture. California law has guidelines on when a tire can be patched (i.e. relative to the sidewall). If it's in the tread center know problems the plugs are rated for speed.....

I had 3,000 miles when I got my first nail, I got it patched. Then at 4,000 miles I got another in the same tire, but this time they would not patch it. So I bought 4 new RE730 tires for $435.00 delivered from Tirerack and I will probably sell the 4 S-02 tires, but one has a nail. They have about 4,000 miles on them. I figured that if I am going to get nails all the time I might as well spend $100 on a tire that $250. If anyone if is interested in the 4 tires please email me at carlen68@yahoo.com. Thank you, Lenny.
