n00b assistance please!
Hi folks, I've looked at S2000's here and there for many years, but have stuck with hot hatches (probably a swear word here) but my missus is now looking at chopping in her car for something a bit more fun and has come across a couple of S2000s, which seem to have become significantly cheaper in the last couple of years. I've searched for a generic buyers guide, but have struggled to find anything.
Is there any good general advice to be aware of, common faults to look out for etc. If I recall, the VTEC engines are pretty rock solid, but just wondering if there is anything to be wary of in terms of gearbox, suspension, electrics, ragtop seals etc? (I can give people a watch list for Clio 182's and Trophy in particular in trade if you like - lol)
Anyway, the one the missus has spotted is an 02 plate GT with 66500 on the clock (if memory serves, this means narrower tyres, slightly more <ahem> exciting drive, no ESP or CD player, but higher red line?)
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Cheers

What to look for when buying a used S2000
I would definitely start at those two threads. Lots of great information. Not sure about any differences in UK versions but you will find a lot of answers there. Good luck!

Excellent, mustn't have happened on quite the right search terms. Will give them a thorough going over. Like the battery terminals point, valid for many cars.
Assume there's nothing unusual about UK rhd models, as that's their native state
Hoping to have a look at one after work today, bit of a hike, up in Keighley. Will be ringing up and checking mucho stuff beforehand.

Don't think UK got the F22C 2.2 from 04+. only the US and Japan from 06+ IIRC?
If theres a weak point in the driveline it's definitely the diff. check for noises etc, try accelerating around roundabouts and have a listen. CV cups can have wear points too which can produce noises.
watch out for cracked valve retainers from mechanical overrev (requires a proper inspection, but not hard to replace if they are cracked). if it's an older car it's worth asking if the banjo bolts have been replaced too. also try to find out about oil consumption.
you'd want one with a glass window roof (02+). brake and clutch cylinders (both master and slave IIRC) seem to need replacing/fixing due to bad seals, look for fluid leaks.
the clutch is a b**** to change from a labour perspective so I suppose you'd want to watch out for signs of slip/wear
haven't read those threads in ages but I'm sure there's heaps of info!
good luck with the search
