You are sort of correct... according to the guy at my dealership, most hondas up to 2001 used 5/30. In 2002, they made a significant engine design change in the Civic Engine that means they now use a different oil filter , and 5/20 oil. I can attest to this headache since before, the same filter fit our S2000 and Odyssey and older civic. We got a new Civic for errands, and everything changed... filter and oil.
Now I'm making no commentary about film strength, and viscocities, and feed volumes in the galleries... other than all of these things are engineered, and viscocity dependant.
The added detail I'll add is that the dealers went through the trouble of adding oil vats and inventories to handle the new 5/20. I doubt they would have gone to the trouble if it wasn't important, or required by Honda.

I think Im going to put Valvolines 5w-40 as it states in the Honda S2000 manual for cold weather and all year around protection why not seems that some S2000 owners use it all year around in Germany same motor!!!!!!

since the C5 Corvette came on the market, it has used Mobil 1 from the factory.. It also has an oil life indicatior that varies your oil life left depending on the conditions you used your car such as type of miles, how hot your engine was during those miles, rpm of your engine etc.. from 97-2000 the oil life change was 10K miles, from 2001 + it went to a 15K mile oil change.. This includes the 405 hp Z06.. so I think if you use Mobil1 and change it at the maint required 7000-7500 mile oil life indicator on the S2000 you will be fine..

In all but the most extreme operating conditions, 10W-30 is fine for any sportscar. I've used them all and just dropped Mobil One synthetic 5W-30 in the S2000 because it was due for on oil change and it's wintertime and when the roads are clear of snow, the car is run. I ran 0W-30 in my SVT (winter) with great results but in the spring, shifted back to 10W-30 Redline.
My bro is a chemical and electrical engineer (dual major) and could put us all to sleep with his discussions on oil, suffice to say his Accord had Mobil One synthetic oil changes since 7500 miles and at last count, had 343,000 miles on the odo and from 10-feet away, you wouldn't know that sucker is even running, it's amazing what condition that engine is in.
This is a topic that will never die but you're not going to harm your engine with M1, Royal Purple, Redline, Amsoil, etc. These are fantastic motor oils and for everyone short of the artic zone (like up here these days), 10W-30 is fine.

I had an Accord also with 336K that RAN fine when I sold it ( a 'little' cosmetic abberations) . Mobil 1 evry 3K. I used a mix of 5w & 10W in the winter. As to the post above suggesting the engine is twice as hot at 130 mph , remember the coolant & airflow is twice etc.
