My VAFC Doesn't Work after VTEC Engagement...
Hey Guys,
My tuner and I installed and setup my new VAFC last night and started to play with the settings. However, something is quite wrong with it. As soon as VTEC engages, my HP rating does down by a good 75% on the dyno. Before VTEC, everything is just fine. If he adds fuel etc. after VTEC, it goes down off the chart... Has this happened to anyone else before? I have a comptech SC, toda header, and comptech exhaust...
PS - My stock HP rating without the VAFC was 290 and 180 torque. It was about 80 degrees with moderate humidity and the engine was rather hot since I had just drove it for 40 minutes to get to the shop.
Thanks,
PJ

If you're trying to add fuel with the VAFC you're going to make the ECU think its seeing boost. This will cause a dramatic drop in power. Do not add fuel with the VAFC.
Also, be sure your ESM is wired up properly.

To be honest, I don't know what the settings are. My tuner was doing everything... I'm not too familiar this kind of part...
Basically, he said adding fuel after VTEC was causing the power loss.
Is there a standard on what settings to use??
Thanks,
PJ

Every engine is different so there is no "standard" for the settings and you should never guess, always use a WBO2, there is a settings library thread as well, but putting the VAFC into a + range I haven't seen work too well, I hit a -11 on some of them after VTEC. Sounds like your tuner doesn't know what he's doing, be careful.

Great.
I'm just gunna sell it then. I don't have time and money to be wasting on this thing.
My tuner says he has installed many VAFCs before and the way mine was acting is the first time he's seen anything like it. Oh well, I thought I could really benefit from one after seeing some of the dyno charts of others with FI.
Thanks for your help...

I wouldn't just give up on it that fast. Your tuner may have done several of them but the S2000 ECU is a bit different than others.
If you want to get rid of it that's your choice but I'm more than willing to help you get it set up.
