He said it pretty well.

Remember, only the useable torque matters! Read my post, it explains it.

more useable torque (rpms which you are actually in when driving agressively) translates to more horsepower @ that particular rpm range.

Horsepower is the ONLY THING that matters for ANYTHING (top speed, acceleration).

Its just that horsepower is a function of torque, which is why 'torque wins races'

(Torque x Engine speed) / 5,252 = Horsepower

The easiest way for me to prove that HP means more than Torque is riding my 600CC Yamaha FZ6 and then going to a 1500cc Victory Cruiser. The Cruiser makes almost 120 ft lbs of torque! My little 600 makes a mear 47 ft lbs of torque, yet the 600 will wipe the road with that cruiser from 0-100 acceleration.

If torque were the only way to accelerate with the quickness they would not make 600cc sportbikes.

The reason power is a good indicator is that it takes engine speed into account. Torque is the force that actually moves your car, however, cars with higher horsepower *typically* maintain their torque output at higher engine speeds. This allows us to take advantage of gearing to the point where engine torque can be multiplied to generate a higher average torque value at the wheels. Thus, the car accelerates faster.

You're all quoting the same article, so why doesn't someone post a link to it?

I'll do it. Why Horsepower is good.
