So today I get a call from my sister in law and she tells me to go out and look at my car because the window was shattered and seats stolen. So I go out there and take a look for myself and find that my seats are gone and my drivers window is gone. So I called the police (who told me they wouldn't do anything about it, not even go to the scene) got a case # and then proceeded with the insurance company (Proggressive) who want me to take it to one of their repair shops. So I dunno if I should let them do that or go some other route, any suggestions? Can they just give me money to fix the car (so I can find some used seats for cheaper and maybe pocket the extra money if their is any? thanks!

Also, the thieves were clearly after the seats because I had lik 200 bux in my middle console box and my car stereo system is worth about 2000 dollars.

 

That is a new slant; breaking the window on a soft top car.

Sorry to hear. Since you have a lot of electronics I assume you also have an aftermarket alarm? What part of Fairfax was the car parked when this happened?

 

Sorry to hear about that. I was just gonna say its good they broke the window and didnt slash the top..Alot cheaper and faster to fix. But you followed up with wanting a new top...lol. Maybe next time..

 

No i didn't have an alarm because I had one in my previous car and those guys at best buy never installed it correctly so it just irritated me. So this claim rep is coming tomorrow and giving me an estimate and a check probably. What is a reasonable amount do you guys think(only drivers side and the seats need to be covered)? And if I do get the seats myself, is this something I can install myself?

Progressive should be able to pay you directly for the damages and you can replace the seats and fix the window on your own. Please post up how much they give you for the seats. Im curious as I have heard the S2k seats cost insane amounts of money.

 

The seats you should be able to install yourself no problem. Ive taken both of mine out in less than 10 minutes whilst drunk and had no problems.
