for this reason, i am going to buy a brand new shortblock from Honda. I can get one for $3200 from the dealer I get all of my parts from. PLanning on buying one and just putting it in my back bedroom since I live alone and no one uses the 3rd room at my house. I see way too many horror stories from buying used motors.

When I raped my first motor on a misshift, I was scared of buying a shit motor so I ended up buying one with a warranty.

Sorry to hear about all the issues but I definately would have bought a motor with a decent warranty. It sucks that your out so much money and all but you have to look at it for whats worth...

You like the car and you can't afford to sell that and buy another S2k that's been untouched etc. If you can afford to put it aside and just stack some money and drive something else you're golden. For most though, making payments on a car that has a blown motor has to be the worst. I'm required to have full coverage here in CA to keep my loan so i'd have no choice if I my motor shit out. It's scary to think about.

man that's awful. buying a 2nd motor and having it fail too. HOrrible to get somehting fixed only to have it fail again. I would try to decide if I really really want to keep the S and if so buy a new engine. Warranty is great and with good driving (i.e. no mechanical over revs or running low on oil, and valves adjusted properly) should be fine. But warranty won't save any of us from a mechanical mis-shift over rev. I know you didn't do this in your case but future wise. But if you're worrrying all the time and not going to enjoy the S then maybe buy more of a beater. Miata Mx5? I drove one, and it's not the same as the S but repair cost maybe less

I feel for you, no way to know if they did a proper job assembling the engine but I'm sure they are to blame. Proving it is next to impossible so there goes $3k down the drain.

The f series engine is amazing, but I have a hard time believing any typical auto/machine shop has the ability to build everything to the same exact tight tolerances as the honda factory. The more high performance a machine is, the more critical tolerances become. 9150rpm's & 240+hp out of 2.0 liters is about as high performance as it gets for a factory street car. I wouldn't pay to have an f20 built by anyone other than a reputable race shop who regularly builds them. I get the impression you had yours repaired at a place that also works on minivans and toyota camrys on a regular basis. NO BUENO! Either way, my condolences.

I feel your pain man. Same thing happened to me. The valve dropped and broke everything. Now I have a new motor then my 2nd gear teeth shredded in the transmission. Once its repaired I can't wait to drive it again. I also drive like a granny too lol. Ill tell you though if something else costly happens I'm done! Good luck with everything
