That sucks. From personal experience, going with insurance isn't the greatest of ideas. Some asshole keyed my entire car to the point where the scratch couldnt be removed. the paintwork was around 1700 and I opted for insurance only to get a 2000 dollar a year hike for the next 3 years ... not to mention my 500 dollar deductible. Considering from what I can see they just ripped your top and a couple of trim pieces, I doubt you'll get a large amount from them. Insurance appraisers are pretty stingy bastards
Time to get one of those alarm systems with the convertible top sensor
Totally just saw the check total 3 grand would buy a lot of nice little things

Unless insurance law has changed in the last few years in Texas, filing a vandalism / theft claim for an incident that occured on your own property will not trigger a rate increase. However, if this occurred somewhere else, a rate increase would follow.

Man that's horrible, insurance is definitely a rip off. I just picked up my s2k just over a month ago and am heading down to DFW for a business trip. Fortunately i won't be taking the S2k with.
Can anyone comment on good things to do in DFW?

My father got into the same situation as you have 3 years ago.
The insurance paid him a lot.
He ended up using the money for :
a OEM hardtop
Soft Top (in which he installed himself)
Greddy Stage 1 turbo
and some bills
He got all this stuff from people slashing his soft top, and trying to yank out the cluster.

Yes the rates do go up.
BTW insurance is such a bs scam. pay to be insured, still have to pay deductible, and some places on top of that increase your rates. And you could have a never made a claim in years yet you never see any of that money again.
