Default My S2000 Chirps!

I have a MY08 s2k and Ive learned to live with the squeak/rattles/etc. with the top up (they add character!) but lately, Ive noticed that there seems to be a "chirping" sound coming from the passenger side with the top down. This sound does NOT occur when the top is up. The chirping seems to be brought on by vibration bc when the car is stopped, the sound stops. Also, when I close my door (passenger or driver side), I can hear a slight chirp (gets louder the harder you close the door). What could some of the sources of this noise be? Thanks!

You're under warranty--take it to the dealer and have them fix it. You'll save yourself some time.

i noticed that my pass seat rubs the leather behind it when it is all the way back. if your seat is all the way back, this may be your "chirping". good luck.

Thanks for the link indys2ki, but I am not convinced that I am having the same issue as is being discussed in the thread. The reason for this is that the chirp goes away when the top is up. If it was in fact coming from the seat rail, why would the position of the top have anything to do with it?

Mine chirped, turns out it was the heat shield underneath the car everytime I was driving normal, and when i would shut the doors.

It's likely in the folded soft top if it goes away with the top up. I have something that "chirps" when I am going down my short gravel driveway due to vibrations...it's in the dash somewhere.

^^ Lol...I have the same occurrence with mine. I think of it as a good thing, though. Especially when it does it from 1st through 3rd gear.

On a serious note...have you checked your spare tire area? If the screw handle/support is loose it will rub against the spare tire and create minor chirps in the process. Try and see if you can tighten the spare tire down anymore or better yet take it out for a day or two to see if that is the problem. It too is behind the passenger seat...Exactly where you mentioned that the sound is coming from.
