Get someone who knows how to drive stick (rare these days) to ride along with you after you get it fixed and show you what you are doing wrong to the poor car! A clutch in 771 miles?!?

Guys, c'mon. This has to be a defect on poor urpow's car! I don't think you could kill a clutch this quickly unless you were sidestepping it at 8K+.... repeatedly....

Well, I hope urpow keeps us posted.

Yeah, I am suprised that I burned the clutch in under 800 miles too.

Is this your first stick? it might be possible. My cousin burned his clutch in less than 1000miles while learning how to drive his Accord. You can bet he got an ear full

I'm really, genuinely sorry for ya, man. But releasing the clutch slowly while revving the engine to 8000 rpm would have burned it out at 8 miles. Take it to the dealer and see what they have to say. Maybe you'll get lucky and they'll do something for you, if not for free then maybe at a discount. Then you should get someone who drives stick (a good friend or a driving school) to teach you the things you should not do. Good luck!

everyone learns at one time or another. but yea, its the clutch. should be an easy replacement but might cost you a few bucks.

thing to remember when driving a standard - use the dead pedal! dont rest your foot on the clutch and dont ride on it when you are braking or accelerating. I usually tell people to take their hand off the shifter as well, as it tends to wear on gears. so shift, and then go to gas and brake pedals with both hands on the steering wheel. good habits start early on. =)

urpow...this really sucks bro!!! sorry to hear this...keep your fingers crossed. Maybe they sold you a lemon 700 miles of riding the clutch through every gear......well anything is possible. Where did you buy Leith or Autopark??? Hopefully Honda will absorb most of the damage so less outta pocket for you.
keep us posted.

I've heard from the dealer that SLKs are more of a "women's" car than a guy's car. Anyone can confirm this?

Thanks!
my gf and i bought our SLK 32 AMG in August for about 63K...the car is great....1/4 mile is 13 flat....they are really fast with parts for the car....its a girl's car IMO....but thats just the SLK in general....but i would like to see someone mess with my gf when shes drivin with that car....not many girls have the AMG though....the car has about 13K miles....and no problems what so ever....u get your service once every 10K miles....and they take care of everything for you....we didnt have to pay very much at all.....
